Greater Bandicoot Rat
Bandicota indica
India's largest rat species — 30-40cm body plus 25cm tail. Aggressive, burrowing rodent that destroys gardens, foundations, and ground-floor storage. Burrows up to 1m deep with multiple exits, undermining foundations and paving. Unlike house rats, bandicoots live mostly outdoors but invade kitchens at night. Recognised by deep grunting calls and large footprint.
